Orthodontia also known as orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, was the first specialty created in the field of dentistry. The specialty deals primarily with the diagnosis, prevention and correction of malpositioned teeth and the jaws. It is the specialty of dentistry that is concerned with the treatment of improper bites and crooked teeth.

Orthodontic treatment can help fix the patient's teeth and set them in the right place. Orthodontists usually use braces and clear aligners to set the patient's teeth.

It is the process of removing or eliminating the etiologic agents – dental plaque and its products which cause problems, thus helping to establish a periodontium that is free of disease. Periodontal scalars and periodontal curettes are some of the tools involved. Root planning and scaling is one of the most effective ways to treat gum disease before it becomes severe. Root planning and scaling cleans between the gums and the teeth down to the roots.

A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it and then filling and sealing it.

The common causes affecting the pulp are a cracked tooth, a deep cavity, repeated dental treatment to the tooth or trauma.

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth. They are typically bonded to the tooth using dental cement. Crowns can be made from many materials, which are usually fabricated using indirect methods. Crowns are often used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth. Crowns are of various types depending on the type of material used: All ceramic metal-free crowns (high strength, high aesthetics), Metal ceramic crowns (good strength, acceptable esthetics) and Metal crown (high strength, poor aesthetics). One may select the type of crown depending on the quality of aesthetics required.

The surgical extraction of teeth is actually the most common surgical procedure provided in dentistry. When a tooth is visible above the gum line and your dentist can easily remove it with forceps, the procedure is called a simple extraction. If a more volatile tooth has yet to grow in, however, your dentist needs to remove gum tissue or bone in order to extract it. This is called a surgical extraction and requires stitches to close the site so that it can heal properly. The doctor may also prescribe a more specific pain medication following the procedure.
